Duminica întâi după Rusalii

Lecturile din această duminică ne oferă un spectru larg pentru înțelegerea apostolatului – a urmării Mântuitorului, și a recompensei pentru credinţă.
Matei 10:32-33, 37-38
„Oricine va mărturisi pentru Mine înaintea oamenilor, mărturisi-voi și Eu pentru el înaintea Tatălui Meu, Care este în ceruri. Iar de cel ce se va lepăda de Mine înaintea oamenilor și Eu Mă voi lepăda de el înaintea Tatălui Meu, Care este în ceruri.”
„Cel ce iubește pe tată ori pe mamă mai mult decât pe Mine nu este vrednic de Mine; cel ce iubește pe fiu ori pe fiică mai mult decât pe Mine nu este vrednic de Mine. Și cel ce nu-și ia crucea și nu-Mi urmează Mie nu este vrednic de Mine.”
Înţelegem din aceste versete cât este de importantă mărturisirea credinţei în Domnul, şi punerea ei în prim-planul vieţii. Îndemnul la purtarea crucii semnifică implicarea în viaţa de credinţă chiar şi atunci când suntem supuşi greutăţilor sau persecuţiei pentru Mântuitorul. După Rusalii, când Spiritul Sfânt s-a pogorât peste apostoli, cu toţii au fost întăriţi să mărturisească Evanghelia plini de zel, indiferent de oprelişti.
Adevăratul apostolat necesită un angajament profund față de Domnul, unul care depășește toate atașamentele pământești. Acest angajament va aduce cu sine suferință și sacrificiu, dar este necesar pentru a fi recunoscuţi înaintea Tatălui. Cu toţii suntem chemați să trăim cu curaj și încredere, bazându-se pe Spiritul Sfânt pentru întărire și călăuzire.
Matei 19:27-30
„Atunci Petru, răspunzând, I-a zis: Iată noi am lăsat toate și Ți-am urmat Ție. Cu noi oare ce va fi? Iar Isus le-a zis: Adevărat zic vouă că voi cei ce Mi-ați urmat Mie, la înnoirea lumii, când Fiul Omului va ședea pe tronul măririi Sale, veți sta și voi pe douăsprezece tronuri, judecând cele douăsprezece seminții ale lui Israel. Și oricine a lăsat case sau frați, sau surori, sau tată, sau mamă, sau femeie, sau copii, sau țarine, pentru numele Meu, înmulțit va lua înapoi și va moșteni viața veșnică. Și mulți dintâi vor fi pe urmă, și cei de pe urmă vor fi întâi.”
Întrebarea Apostolului Petru reflectă o preocupare comună cu privire la sacrificiile făcute pentru a-L urma pe Domnul. Isus îi asigură pe discipoli că sacrificiile lor nu sunt în zadar; vor primi recompense abundente atât în această viață, cât și în cea viitoare. Inversarea primei și ultimei subliniază natura transformatoare a împărăției lui Dumnezeu, unde statutul pământesc și sacrificiile sunt redefinite.
Sacrificiile oferite Mântuitorului sunt onorate și răsplătite peste măsură. Această asigurare ne încurajează să perseverăm în credință și slujire, știind că dreptatea și generozitatea lui Dumnezeu depășesc cu mult așteptările umane. Promisiunea recompensei divine ne întăreşte să ne concentrăm pe bunurile spirituale, şi nu pe cele materiale sau interumane.
Evrei 11:33-12:2
„Care prin credință, au biruit împărății, au făcut dreptate, au dobândit făgăduințele, au astupat gurile leilor, au stins puterea focului, au scăpat de ascuțișul sabiei, s-au împuternicit, din slabi ce erau s-au făcut tari în război, au întors taberele vrăjmașilor pe fugă; unele femei și-au luat pe morții lor înviați. Iar alții au fost chinuiți, neprimind izbăvirea, ca să dobândească mai bună înviere;”
„De aceea și noi, având împrejurul nostru atâta nor de mărturii, să lepădăm orice povară și păcatul ce grabnic ne împresoară și să alergăm cu stăruință în lupta care ne stă înainte. Cu ochii ațintiți asupra lui Isus, începătorul și plinitorul credinței, Care, pentru bucuria pusă înainte-I, a suferit crucea, n-a ținut seama de ocara ei și a șezut de-a dreapta tronului lui Dumnezeu.”
Aceste pasaje din Epistola către Evrei relatează triumfurile și suferințele celor care au trăit în credință. Încrederea în Dumnezeu implică îndurarea greutăților și credinţa în promisiunile Lui. „Marele nor de martori” ne servește drept exemplu de perseverenţă. Cu ochii aţintiţi la Mântuitorul – Cel ce a îndurat crucea și a triumfat asupra morţii, găsim exemplul suprem de credință și răbdare.
Suntem invitaţi să ne trăim credința inspirându-se din exemplele înaintaşilor. Îndurarea încercărilor și rezistența în faţa păcatului necesită perseverență și concentrare pe viaţa Mântuitorului, care întruchipează credința și sacrificiul perfect. Promisiunea de a-I împărtăși victoria și bucuria veșnică, ne încurajează să rămânem statornici în călătoria noastră spirituală.
Pogorârea Spiritului Sfânt a oferit ucenicilor curajul de a trăi şi mărturisi Evanghelia. Învățăturile ei subliniază necesitatea unei credințe neclintite şi rezilienţă în faţa provocărilor pentru asigurarea răsplatei divine. Sacramentele Bisericii împărtășesc puterea transformatoare a Spiritului Sfânt și, prin acest har sacramental, suntem transformați atât individual, cât și la nivel de comunitate.

Matthew 10:32-33, 37-38
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.”- “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.”
These verses emphasize the importance of openly professing faith in Jesus and prioritizing this relationship above all others. The call to “take up their cross” signifies a readiness to face hardship and even persecution for the sake of Christ. After Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was given to the disciples, believers were empowered to boldly proclaim the Gospel despite opposition.
True discipleship requires a profound commitment to Christ that surpasses all earthly attachments. This commitment may entail suffering and sacrifice, but it is essential for being recognized by Jesus before the Father. Believers are called to live courageously and faithfully, relying on the Holy Spirit for strength and guidance.
Matthew 19:27-30
“Peter answered him, ‘We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?’ Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.'”
Peter’s question reflects a common concern about the sacrifices made for following Jesus. Jesus reassures his disciples that their sacrifices are not in vain; they will receive abundant rewards both in this life and in the life to come. The reversal of the first and the last underscores the transformative nature of God’s kingdom, where earthly status and sacrifices are redefined.
The sacrifices made for the sake of Christ are honored and rewarded beyond measure. This assurance encourages believers to persevere in faith and service, knowing that God’s justice and generosity far exceed human expectations. The promise of eternal life and divine reward motivates believers to prioritize spiritual over material or relational ties.
Hebrews 11:33-12:2
“Who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection.”
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
This passage from Hebrews recounts the triumphs and sufferings of those who lived by faith, emphasizing that faith entails enduring hardships and trusting in God’s promises. The “great cloud of witnesses” serves as an inspiration for believers to persevere. By fixing their eyes on Jesus, who endured the cross and triumphed over it, believers find the ultimate example of faith and endurance.
Believers are called to live by faith, drawing inspiration from the examples of those who have gone before them. Enduring trials and resisting sin requires perseverance and a focus on Jesus, who embodies perfect faith and sacrifice. The promise of sharing in Christ’s victory and eternal joy encourages believers to remain steadfast in their journey.
The coming of the Holy Spirit provided the disciples with the strength and courage to live out these challenging teachings. The teachings drawn from these passages emphasize the necessity of unwavering faith, the willingness to sacrifice for the sake of Christ, and the assurance of divine reward. The Church’s Sacraments impart the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, and through this sacramental grace, Christians are transformed both individually and as a community.
